With a few minutes, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos unveiled the newest Kindle, named the Kindle DX — a larger screen version of the Kindle 2 that adds some features like PDF reading and an accelerometer to dynamically switch orentations. We linked to the specs earlier, so it's time for the meat: Our impressions of the device. On the panel today is freelance writer and columnist Gary Krakow, and Jason Hiner, Editor-in-chief of TechRepublic. We're all feeling a bit of apprehension toward the device, with Gary pointing out the is going to be a tough pill to swollow for most people. Jason points out the device has a companion application for the iPhone platform, which leads to the logical conclusion: Why haven't they made software for desktops? I'm pretty much dead set against the Kindle DX, though I might opt for the Kindle 2. It's pretty ballsy to market a device for reading books, when I could get a 10.1" netbook for around the same price that can surf the web on a color screen, and the like. Sure, my netbook might not have the long battery life, or as be as comfortable on the eyes as the epaper display, all 16 shades of its monochromatic wonderment, but for me, and most cash strapped college students, I think we're going to save our dollars for "real gadgets".

Ik kreeg een pakje uit New York. De douane heeft het niet gezien, hoefde geen BTW te betalen. Ik pak hem uit en vertel wat ik er van vind (mooi!!!) en mijn irritaties van de kindle 1.0 (die ik mooi vind) worden opgelost. Ik geef aan wat je er in Nederland me kunt doen. Verder vergelijk ik hem met de www.Bebook.nl die nederlandse content en RSS readers heeft en de Sony Ebook die een backlight en touchscreen heeft maar wat helaas het scherm stukken minder mooi maakt. Enjoy!

Irex was een echte innovator in 2005 toen ze met hun Iliad reader aankwamen. Mooi scherm met electronische inkt, wifi en beschrijfbaar. Toen een tijdje weinig innovatie. Edoch nu hebben ze weer iets nieuws. Een A4 versie met een giga 10.2 inch screen. Batterijen leven van een week en super sterk. je kunt hem laten vallen zonder problemen. En dat doe ik dus ook! Voor 599 incl btw is dit in de busines2business en prima product voor alle papiervreters. De gemiddelde kantoorwerker gebruikt 10.000 velletjes per jaar uit de printer. 50% is aan het einde van de dag nutteloos, 80% aan het einde van de week. Voor deze mensen is de Irex A4 reader. Niet voor het grote publiek. Het is een mooi licht dun gadget met een prachtig scherm.
